THE POWER OF BLACK

Say what you will about Madame C.J. Walker. She was making it rain early.

Known as one of the richest African-American women until her death in 1919, Madame C.J. Walker built an empire by developing hair products for black women.

Nowadays, we can't even find a beauty supply store owned by a black family, moreless a black owned and operated hair care system or laboratory.

Perhaps, the past can be inspiration for our future. No offense to our Asian sisters and brothers, but can we afford to allow Koreans and other Asian-Americans to maintain a monopoly in a billion dollar industry? Dollars we spend in beauty supply stores should be invested back into our own black neighborhoods and communities. Sorry for the soap-box rant.
